  1. This is the temple built by native Zamindar and Businessman Gobindaram Mitra in 1730-31. The temple was (dedicated to Goddess Kali- Siddheswari) 165ft high, higher than the Ochternoli monumen (Shahid Minar)- 157ft. As the temple was built by a native zamindar, the Britishers named it ‘Black Pagoda’. It serveved as a navigator for the ships in the Hooghly rive. The temple faced an earthquake and cyclone on the same day in 1737 and partially collapsed. The remains can still be seen in the Coomartuli area. Regular pooja is performed even today. Recently the temple has received a facelift.
