So interesting even for non-indian reader who knows very little about Kolkata
Precise, documented and lively! Congratulations, Ashok, thank you.

I just finished reading the book. All seven essays.
The book is truly a book of revelations, an eye-opener for people like me. Came to know so much about Calcutta in the 18th and 19th centuries. Seeing the city in a new light altogether. Honestly, after reading your superbly researched work, I realised that we know so little. Came to know how the city looked like in the late 18th C, how it grew from a marshy land to a bustling city and at the same time came to know of men like Dall and Drummond and their contributions to the Bengal Renaissance. Thank you 🙏

I found this splendidly written book by Mr Asoknath Mukhopadhyay very absorbing.
An enjoyable read that is packed with interesting information and authentic references. I was fascinated by the details of the places that created the circumstances and the people who left their indelible mark on the evolution of this important thoroughfare as we know it even today. It is indeed a nicely told story dotted with well-researched historical facts and anecdotes. If only the pictures were *n colour surely, one would enjoy it even more.
