Enjoyed reading immensely.Very well researched . I realise now why “Puranokolkata” takes quite a long time in bringing out its next write up. Your standard is undoubtedly high and admiringly authenticated. Keep it up. Very best wishes.–nkm. Ps: As you know I live in South India since ’62. I try to learn activities of Western Colonial Powers herein– in corresponding periods – and compare such facts to get a larger picture of the history of colonial India.Regards-nkm

Thank you Dr Majumder very much for your kind words and for allowing my indulgence of issuing posts randomly, though it was never to my liking. The only alternative might have been shorter posts on specific topics. Actually, I started with something like that. Any suggestions? As regards your interest in colonial influence in the southern states, there should be large resources remain unexplored. Please let me know if you take it up with its scope. Warm regards and Wishes.

Yes – there are so many aspects to explore. For example:we know very little about native gentries and there to and fro activites between Colonial posts e.g. Madras & Calcutta or Pondicherry & Chandernogore. I could not find inspite of best efforts any Bengali name in early19th. century Madras(before Michael’s arrival) – though there must have been much buisiness contacts. Only I know Rev. K.M.Bannerjee visited Madras when Madusudan was here on some church related work .Regards with thanks — nkm

        Hello Dr. Majumder,
A fascinating area, it seems. Besides history, accounts of travellers who visited both the places may help a lot in understanding various issues. I often find letters and journals rewarding and inspiring. If chance to come across a reference to Bengali visiting Madras in older days, I would surely come back to you. Very Best

Barrackpore House & Its English Park: 1803-1912

রাজভবন লাটবাগান In sequence of the previously posted essay, ‘Barrackpore, a little Calcutta’, I am tempted to bring about the subject once again to share with you the fascinating details of the making of Barrackpore House and the Park as revealed in ‘The Story Of The Viceroys And Government Houses’ of Marquis Curzon of Kendleston.
