The view shows the government building on Speke Street, now Sudder Street, that was home to the court known as the Sudder Dewany Adawlut –  the court of civil appeal for Indians outside the jurisdiction of Calcutta. The law was administered under Hindu or Muslim legal codes as appropriate.
